I am looking for McCann ancestors. My great grandparents were Patrick McCann and Susan O'Neil, they had a son Robert G. McCann in 1898-1900. He came to the United States to stay with his Aunt Nellie in 1926 through Canada to Minnesota, then sent for my grandmother Belle Dowd. This is all I can find out after extensive searchs. According to the ship manifest my grandfather Robert said his father lived at 34 Lower Conrad Street in Belfast at the time he came over in 1926. Any help would be greatly appreciated-my parents and all grandparents are gone, so I am having a tough time piecing this puzzle together! Shannon

Dan Allen - 06:05am Nov 16, 2007 Irish (#114 of 516)

I'm trying to find more information about Mary-Ann Melyman Benson

I found an 1868 family bible with an entry:

"Mary-Ann Melyman Benson born in Ireland County of Antrim March 4th, 1829 Died Dec 21st, 1902"

The bible is now in Schroon Lake, Essex County, NY, USA.

I'm not sure how she is related to me but I do know that my great great grandparents were Alma and Herbert Benson.

My great aunts (on the Benson side) tell me that we have relatives in Nova Scotia.

If anyone has any information, please email me at Dan@DanAllen.com

Thanks, D TaoOfDan.com

Kenny Parker - 05:09am Nov 18, 2007 Irish (#116 of 516)

Hello, I am a newbie to this site. In 1823 at Inch, Wigtownshire, Scotland my 4x great grandparents were married. They were Andrew Mathews and Agnes McKerlie. One of their nine children, Alexander (born 1824 at Inch, Stranraer) married Martha Shepherd (born 1826 Blaris, Lisburn) in Ireland 22nd April 1848. Their only child Elizabeth Ann Mathews was born in 1848 at County Antrim. Elizabeth was back staying with her granny at Inch, Stranraer by 1861. I am presuming that her parents had died. The thirteen year old was put to work as a servant in the household of William Parker, who was a fisherman/crofter at The Bents, Balcarry, Old Luce, Wigtownshire. He and his wife Elizabeth Sprott had four children. In 1865 Elizabeth Sprott died. In 1866 18 year old Elizabeth married 36 year old William Parker. Not only did she look after his four children, she went on to have another seven with him. Elizabeth Ann died in 1890 at Glenluce, Wigtownshire. William Parker died 1913 at Glenluce aged 83. One of their children Alexander Parker was my Great Grandfather. I am looking for information on the deaths of Elizabeth Ann's parents and Shepherd family at Blaris. I am hoping to visit Blaris next year.
